Richard Gawler
Western Thunderer
I am sorting through old photographs and found this sequence which I think is worth sharing on WT.
The task in hand was to add the moulded roof lugs to the Dapol RTR model Western in 4mm scale, but the technique ought to work with similar items with a round hole. The sewing needle is tapered so it locks itself onto the part and still withdraws easily too.
Take a sewing needle and push it through a pencil eraser to make a handle to hold it.
Cut the lugs from the sprue on a white surface so you can see them.
Pick up the lug on the needle.
Press the lug into position on the roof of the model.
Withdraw finger.
Then withdraw needle.
Add solvent.
I found the hardest part was moderating the quantity of solvent so there was actually some on the brush but not enough to leave a mark on the painted finish.
I sold this model many years ago which was a bit of a shame because I had named it "Western Thunder".
