When do we start panicking, again?

You don't - I wouldn't even bother to start worrying about panicking.

You just need to make sure the layout wiring and operation of is reliable. The trains will then flawlessly and no-one will notice.

When assisting friends with a large Austrian HO layout we used to set it up, run a test train in either direction then retire to the pub* (if setting up the night before)......... ready for the invading unwashed rucksacked hoards the following day.

* but not the same one as the other layouts operators .....

On a serious note, (I believe) it's the first big S7 roundy roundy layout in public view so both the layout and the stock need to be bullet-proof, or the non-believers will be out in their hoardes.

I think we're close to that point now, we're close to having all the stock we're going to use at Love Lane HQ, and that is showing up a couple of issues. The places where we have the odd issue now are board joins, mostly on the curved ends where a wheel can pick up on the end of a length of rail.

So am I but remember S7 doesn’t work! Well I was told that often enough when I exhibited ’Auchlin’

When we had Auchlin on the circuit reliability was pretty good, even on the 2’6” 1 in 12 pit line with its kinked rail joints. The twice a sequence Edinburgh express also ran faultlessly from end to end at speed except when the operator forgot to set the points and it ended up down in the exchange sidings!

John Birch produced a 3d drawing which was printed and then used as a master for a brass casting.

Thank you, without being too nosey how much did that roughly cost as from the results it would seem worth the effort.

Not sure what the cost was but i would imagine a great deal of time was put into the 3D modelling.

The drawing did take quite a while as it was stretching my 3D CAD skills to breaking point. As I recall, the 3D prints (I had two done) were around £25 - 30 for the pair from CW Railways who did a very neat job. The castings were about £7 each for a batch of 20 which surprised me. I though they might be a bit less. If you actually want the GE pattern I have some spares.

Good luck. Just remember that a complex shape is only a lot of simple shapes put together (or subtracted).

It looks a lot better in natural light and with black underframes.

A good dose of weathering will tone it down too. Incidentally this is a slightly darker version of the recommended Halfords rattle cans for this livery, and it's quite a bit flatter than I used on the two Thompson coaches and the quint.
