I dunno about them surviving better Phil, the difference in vents is only because yours is a CCT, not a PMV - there might have been more of the latter but CCTs weren't at all rare in blue. 2492 doesnt appear in my 1970s RCTS books though - is it plywood sided, I cant quite tell from that pic?

Whilst southern region plv/guv wore their green livery , were the body ends painted black or green ?

S1739 was in blue pictured at Didcot 1979. ( this seems to have un-equal planks towards the top of the body )
S2536S Blue pictured 1974 @ Exeter ( heavily plated over, only doors left wooden)
S2543S Blue pictured 1969 @ Ipswich ( again heavily plated except for the doors)

I know its not much help Phill, but i will carry on having a look

Once it has been weathered it wont make much difference whatever colour it is The paintwork looks quite tidy so id leave it.

The 25xx ones wont be plated as such Rob, it will be an as-built combo of plywood sides with planked doors (presumably plywood wasnt felt sufficiently strong for the doors). 1739 is like the old Hornby Dublo model, the batch it came from is unique in having mismatched planking (wide on the doors but alternate wide/narrow on the sides)

Must admit I'm not 100% on that Phill, mainly 'cos I'd rarely do an ex-works one, but I'm fairly sure they were treated just like any other coaching stock, which would mean black until c1963/64

Any chance of a scan of the pic until I can get hold of the book ?.......is the book still in print ? I recently got a copy of David Larkin's book 'Working Wagons 1968-1973' which is very good, but I've not see the 'General Parcels Rolling Stock' one yet.
