Fair enough. The "Road Switcher" design was done by Alco first, from 1941 on; way before EMD, who were too busy selling E- and F-Units during and after WW2.
I'm sure I read of there being a definite American influence in the styling, though. The 10800, Cl.15 & 16 aren't like any other UK diesels. Then again, neither was the Cl. 17, I suppose...

And of course railway engineers could well have been influenced by these U.S. built locos based at Newport (Ebbw Junction) with the U.S. 756th Railway Shop Battalion during the war....

Hi I think I've just seen some pics of these son an o guage layout layout called Hobbs Warren

It was a good layout. Great use of the limited space.

Just a small observation... Road vehicles always define the "age" of a layout for me... I would have liked to have seen the car at the front (was it a 100E?) change occassionally as the period of the stock era evolved..? (sorry for thread hj).

In similar vein... for me the layout worked as "BR Steam", "Transition" and "Green Diesel", but not at all as "Blue Diesel". Coaling stages and water cranes really had totally disappeared by that time, surely..??

Thing about the railway, some things in certain locations disappeared quite quickly like the coaling stage at Bescot yet some things survive, like the old steam sheds OK fenced off from the rest of the depot, but again look at Stourbridge Jnc again loads of steam era equipment still there in the 70's. Its a very hit and miss subject. Another place to look is New St the old signal light building on Platform 1 it survived the complete annihilation of the old New St and was found a new use ( Training and Road learning School), only being demolished in the last few years.

Mods this is a good topic worthy of its own thread can you split it away please
