I think the view here is that the bigger Severn Mill plates (the top ones) are correct and that the Guilplates as fitted by Tower are where the Horlicks was made.
The new larger plate is better. I should have checked before I fitted the Guilplates on the loco (Tower did not fit them they leave you to do it) as they do look too small.
One more pic I found http://www.flickr.com/photos/55184015@N00/85274064/
Here are some shots of D1000 with the Severn Mill Plates on. Very pleased with them!
Apologies for the number of pics, a little bit of light came out on a windy day.
Its a mixture of colours courtesy Martyn Welch, need to go and have a look again.
Humbrol Satin black on the wheels first then some other doses of crap to bring it up to a light traffic level.
Jury is out on the rims Jon! I know they should be polished but I think they would look better that way if the wheel profile was a little beyyer. Plus the crap soon covered them up. I will keep looking for pics if D1000 then decide what to do.
Um. One red tail light isn't prototypical though. Oil lamp, yes, electric tail light, no.
I know on hymeks and warships the white marker and red light were used while shunting in station limits (all 4 on together) and assume westerns were the same?
This is the picture I used For the positioning, looks good to me but I suppose with out the original plate to physically measure I can't be 100 percent certain. It's far better than the guilplates version.
