4mm Llanfair

Nice models Larry.
I must be old fashioned, I dislike photo stacking, to me it produces pictures that look unreal. No perception of depth. As I am here writing my phone is in focus, but I can see my feet and my son, but neither are as clear and sharp as my phone, and vise versa.

Yes, I can go along with what you say about lack of depth Peter, but I'm looking at this from another angle. When I photograph real trains, I do not expect the focus to fall off after the second coach. (It does with large format unless the camera has movements). So I am trying to show two or three model coaches sharply in focus.

What an interesting subject reference the pictures you have been composing of the two coaches. I’m afraid my photography is very much ‘point and shoot’ but your explanation has open new avenues for me. Thankyou Larry every day is a school day as they say

You refer to the name of the terminus Heather? Hahah.. Waterhead seems so obvious a name now, but it took some getting there. My late wife came from Waterhead, Oldham and that is a head of water near the bottom of the moors.

First steps in making the station platform. 60 thou Plastikard is being used and the platform top is seen drying out against the track...

Having determined the platform height, the remainder of the structure was built. The underside shows the supports.....



Tested in position on the layut...


Edging slabs made from Slaters 0416 7mm scale Paving Grey...


When everything has dried out, the edging slabs will be filed to look as one with the 60 thou plastikard underneath...

The infill between the large edging slabs is Slaters 4mm 0414 Paving Grey. Many if not most of the Cambrian Railways platforms were gravel or tar-macadam. However, some were paved, and seeing as my station would be well used by Moors Barracks service personnel with kit, I went for paving...



I was a bit tight with the paving and only laid it where it will show. It continues for about half an inch under the station building...

Ditto. I will continue building the end loading bay and coal platform before adding detail...

i have just seen the station building placed in position and have to say it looks very good. It bears a marked similarity to the old GER 1865 design of station buildings.

The branch ends on land cut out of the rising moorland and so I am currently adding the terra-firma around the station and yard area. The scrap peices of chipboard differed in thickness, so the 1/8" cork was first removed from the baseboard...



I had considered the end results in my mind when laying the sidings, but as things took shape today, it became obvious they had to be lengthened...


The raised "earthworks" in place beside the newly extended sidings...

It's the time of year when the layout gets some sunshine, but the window frames spoil it for photography. The platforms are not far off being scale length, and two-coach locals only used the section of platform that lay between the runround points. All the sidings are over-long for the traffic, but real yards were often like this. There are plenty of options for stabling day excursions...

Looks very nice, Larry. I like the 'lost' coach in the siding; very realistic.
