ALSRM Reading May 9th

As above, the annual show at Reading this Saturday, despite the claim on the website the Gauge 1 track will be "Surrey Oval", owned by the erm, Surrey Group. I shall be going along hoping to run an engine or two, Evening Star and a WR 61xx, a gaseous thing from Accucraft.
Although primarily going to enjoy myself I should have some pre-prepared membership packs to lessen the initial joining cost which one or two here have taken advantage of just recently .
Anyway, hopefully catch up with some of you there, all the best, Rob

Hi John;

I just checked with the man himself, and he will not be attending ALSRM in Reading this weekend, neither is he intending to be at RAILEX in Stoke Mandeville later this month.

He may be at Taunton later this year, and he may be at Exeter - neither of these is guaranteed, he *is*, however, fully intending to be at Telford.
(Gosh, that seems to be an awful long way away ...)

Well, There were plenty of good traders there including manufacturers (not just box shifters), and some nice layouts.

But, the halls felt empty with less people than usual. Are serious modellers going off this show for some reason?

It's an interesting question, but I can understand why that was the case. I had a short shopping list and failed to get any of it:
2off 18" lengths 3mm x 3mm brass rod
Aliphatic resin adhesive
Proxxon MFB/E had torch

I think any of those things might have been expected purchases at such a show so might lead some to reconsider their attendance next time.

Otherwise it was a good day, I nearly lost my voice pontificating about drives for 7mm scale diesel locos and DMUs; MTH looked quite startled at one point. Sorry Matt

I spoke to several traders late in the day and that was the perception, I cant comment though as its only the 2nd time I've been.
