Annual G3 AGM & 'Showcase' jolly

OK collective, I realise that it's a bit 'one minute to midnight' but I'll throw this out there......... as, for some unknown reason the Gauge 3 Society hasn't got off its' ar*e and said anything.

If you're around the south Midlands/north Oxfordshire - Coventry/Banbury/Aylesbury/Swindon/Brum, and you've got nothing on tomorrow, 16th.......

Right, here we go, chaps.
Seems that no one in the society is bothered about putting the word out there, apart from a spread in the newsletter..... but, in a fortnight, the 16th, the Gauge 3 Society holds their showcase jolly that purports to 'advertise' Gauge 3 in it's best light. The cynical amongst us would say it's nothing more than a glorified GTG.... surely not...!!!??

So, if you're on the periphery of G3 or undecided, looking for a decent day out, got a bit of a passing interest in 'larger' scale model trains, put the 16th in your diary - venue, British Motor Museum at Gaydon, CV35 0BJ for your Satnav. I'm also led too believe the catering's better than half decent, as well.

So, come on, let's see if we can get some of the Northern contingent to pay a visit as well.

Since originally posting, I've discovered there's some G1 content - Carding Road & a G0 layout - a number of traders, Slaters, Brunel Models, Williams Models, Barret Steam, to name just a few.

Thanks, I'll try & get in a bit earlier next year.

We had a pleasant drive upto Gaydon yesterday and enjoyed meeting old friends.

Just for something different - I particularly liked these two Midland Railway wagons. Their builder has promised me photos of his G3 'Diorama' Industrial shunting layout from which these two lineside examples were removed.

I even looked on the HMRS website but couldn’t spot this one. The sides look fairly simple to make up.

It was a great day and I agree with the above that the small layout those models are from will take Gauge 3 exhibition layouts up a notch or two. The concept of it is new and the execution beautiful. I can't wait to see it.

What struck me at the show was that in spite of the small (but growing) number of traders the range of models is tremendous and Gauge 3 is no longer the preserve of the scratch builder, though there were some superb examples of that too.

I'd be interested in the views of the Gauge 1 modellers who were also there.
