Edge Lane Junction

Yesterday I was told by the Mrs/boss that spare room/modelling room resembled a sh!#hole so grabbed some ‘cleaning’ time to tidy things up. I’ve been meaning to sort the chairs out for ages so took the opportunity and I quite enjoyed it to be honest.

I then took more advantage of my tidying time to take some photos of the bridge in position with D326 passing underneath.

I am wondering if we are all closet bus enthusiasts too, in the hobby. I have always had a 'thing' for buses on my many layouts over the years - I still have three original Dinky Toys double-deckers in my modest collection. They are repainted so not in the collectable field. For my former Whatborough layout which was loosely based in East Leicestershire, I bought a Barton Leyland PD2 but didn't add any Midland Red or Lincolnshire vehicles - just never got round to it. Thus it would seem that I still have to have buses around!
I admire your collection of Liverpool and Ribble buses - wasn't there a company called Crosville who also served the area? I certainly remember seeing their green liveried buses at West Kirby station. A good reason to add a few more different liveried road vehicles....?

I think deep down trains and buses etc go have in hand although us train folk like buses more than bus people like trains. On the odd occasion I went to my Nan and grandad’s on the bus rather than the train I remember going on Cosville buses, they lived in Houghgreen and I’m sure there was a Cosville depot somewhere around those ways, I could be mistaken though.

Just asked one of my mates who owns a few buses included a rather nice Atlantean, here’s his reply regarding Crosville depots.

‘Garage on Edge Lane until 1985 when it moved to Love Lane, Vauxhall, until it closed in early 1987 after the strikes. Others were in Warrington and Runcorn.’

Week two of early’s so again hardly any modelling time to be had which is rather frustrating, I have however printed off the Templot for a section of the first board, the board I’m currently working on being number two. ELJ itself will be on two 6’ long boards but it’s always been the plan to have a board on the lead up to the junction, this has been the plan since the ELJ OO days but I’d never really decided on a track plan, obviously the up and down will be unchanged but it was what else to have on that section, depots, sidings…? Being someone who likes things prototypical and not one for compression etc I’ve decided on a headshunt and holding two sidings for locos, this will be for on ‘off scene sidings/depot (not quite decided) and this can also be used independently as a photo plank and for short videos being only 6’ x1’. Like I said it’s nothing to exciting but it’ll add that little bit extra.

Edge Lane road bridge will form the scenic break behind the 47

Peak on the headshunt, this will probably be shortened though

Sleepers have starting going down on the Edge Lane holding sidings as of the location here’s an areal shot of the real area

The second siding still needs attaching to the Templot plan

Being only 6’x1’ this can also be used as a stand alone mini layout to have a little shunt with show off locos etc. And due to popular demand my first Crosville bus has arrived on the layout ;)

Grabbed an hour this week so managed to get the Templot glued down onto the ply and managed to add a few more sleepers.
IMG_6621.jpeg
IMG_6622.jpegIMG_6627.jpeg
Where the two AL5’s are in this pic will be another siding with OLE but it’ll be more overgrown and rusty etc

D326 in the headshunt

The reason I’m concentrating on this board more than the junction board is because this can be used as a separate mini layout and with impending arrival of some Accurascale goodies I really want something to play with them on.

Apologies for the lack of updates, until Tuesday nothing much had progressed, since then I’ve built the frame for the baseboard and the first four 60’ track sections are now fixed into position

I’ve also been looking at yard lights but I’ve decided to remove the detail I added to these lights from my 7mm days and rescale them to 4mm

Well since these photos were taking a disagreement with swmbo resulted in early withdrawals from service of both these locos as she seen her ass over something and these were the first objects in range to grab

To say I was not impressed was an understatement and it also destroyed my mojo completely. This happened just after my last post hence lack of updates. I have had thoughts including doubts about whether to continue modelling as I never get anything anywhere near completed. After serous sole searching I decided to replaced both locos but I might of got the scale wrong when placing the order. I’ve got a plan and which fits in a car and can be set up in a small room so for now I’m building what makes me happy, whether I post progress of the build I’m not sure as nothing I ever start gets near complete so I might just build it then post I’m still very undecided.

But more will be revealed soon.

Oh no, accidents happen, certainly I have some near misses on my Dublo based layout where I am not massively precious about the stock. However, I think my EM on O gauge efforts would result in a different reaction. So in some senses it's best to not to scratch build because if it gets destroyed you'll be in even more pain than an RTR conversion.

I can understand your feelings, Paul. An unfortunate accident, indeed. Respecting your other thoughts, I could pave a road to the underworld with the unfinished layouts I have started over the years. As regards reporting your future progress, there are many of us who would be pleased to see how things happen but of course the decision must be yours. I have recently chosen not to regularly report on the happenings at either Woforf or Pence East Goods - my two layouts with threads on here. Time is precious for me these days and better devoted to modelling, not typing.

I wish every good fortune for you and your future modelling,

Roger

Apparently I’ve been testing my better-half’s patience of late, Paul, too.

Tired of my idle promises to remove all my modelling tools and paints etc from the lounge table - it’s always tomorrow! - she assured me that she was very close to gathering all and sundry and lashing them in the bin when she fruitlessly attempted another ‘clean sweep’ the other day. After 38 years of marriage, I knew she wasn’t joking…….

Liverpool girls, hey ;)

That said, with my own mojo having seemingly upped and left some time ago, I might just do it myself :(

Best,

Jon

If we get to 38 years I might not have any locos left, just hope she doesn’t launch an O gauge 40 at me otherwise I might end up in a box! At the moment though my mojo is slowly returning.

You two guys are just beginners ! My good lady and I record our 65th Anniversary tomorrow. The Golden Rule you have to remember - there are just two ways of doing things - the wife's way and the wrong way.

Roger ;)

PS - There are other rules too .......... you'll no doubt have picked some of them up already. already
