Great to see this, not many pics of these kits built up.

May I ask what the story is with the return cranks? Are they in 2 parts and subject to final fitting?
There is an overlay on the return crank that is best left unsecured until the painting is done. The painter will disassemble the frames for painting then reassemble and secure.
With the return crank removed the cylinders and motion bracket, along with the valve gear, can be removed.

Work continues slowly.
The smokebox is built up as a unit which, like the cab, is attached to the footplate with 4 12BA screws. It also contains the retaining nut for the frame to body attachment. The boiler has wrappers at the smokebox end that sits inside the smokebox. It is necessary to slice a piece out of the boiler to clear the attachment nut.

There is a clever design in the kit for locating the firebox to the Cab front. The tank rear former has three holes which align with three holes in the cab front and the firebox is located tight under the former and soldered in place. This former has yet to be (temporarily) located. At present the boiler is just placed in position: it will sit tight against the cab front.

As per the instructions I am going to have to remove the top of the firebox to give clearance for the motor. I also need to determine if it will be possible to fit a closure plate at the front of the firebox. One isn't identified in the parts list but there is an etched rectangle on the fret that will do the job nicely. I also need to think if I can scratch something up to fill the gap between the frames as this is quite visible.
