The last scheduled train to arrive at Bleddfa Rd., before Easter was this mornings goods train from Kington, though there are rumours of a ramblers special arriving on Easter Monday.

P1210238-EDIT.jpg

The lever frame was connected to the point rodding earlier this week, I just had enough Modelu stools, MSE cranks and rodding to complete the job.

P1210252-EDIT.jpg

Only 1455 is RTR, everything else is either kit or scratch built.

P1210253-EDIT.jpg

Goods trains usually arrive on the platform road, but the siding loop was empty this morning.

P1210197-EDIT.jpg

1455 is about to couple up to a pair of Slater's 7 plank RCH wagons for the return working.

P1210224.jpg

1455 ready to depart for civilisation with a short train of empties. I'm hoping to build and install some Scale Model Scenery card fencing over Easter, the first section is being tried for size in the background prior to the posts being built up.

P1210216-EDIT.jpg

Finally a cruel close up of the rodding which runs down to the catch point, the fpl cover was cobbled together from styrene.

Happy Easter to one and all,
Geoff

Indeed, superb photo's and if you enjoy taking them, that's all that matters, as Jordan says, keep em coming!

Gary
Thanks Gary, whilst I do enjoy trying to recreate scenes from the past, I'm wary of boring folk to death with too much of the same old thing. It's becoming harder to come up with new camera angles, which is one of the disadvantages of small layouts.

Geoff, fully understand that, if I may be cheeky and ask for a request ? would it be possible to have this shot without the loco and then one looking the other way, your layout is just amazing and full of atmosphere.

Many Thanks

Gary

Here you are Gary, and in technicolour for a change :)

P1210257-EDIT.jpg

The curve leading to the platform road is on a 6ft radius at its sharpest point, but looks far sharper than it actually is....

P1210268-EDIT.jpg

1455 is just about to cross the river in the distance..

Thanks for your continued interest and kind comments.

Geoff, thank you very much for taking the time to take your amazing pictures of an amazing layout, Less is often more, as others have said, pure inspiration without any items of rolling stock, close your eyes and your there.....

Many thanks for posting.

Afternoon Geoff,

Well, 'wow' just doesn't cut it! I will be delighted if I can get my efforts halfway near yours!

Just exquisite work.

All the best,

Geoff

It doesn’t even need any rolling stock!

Which proves 7mm scale doesn't need to be expensive

Thank you Gary, I'm pleased the photos take you there. :)

Hi Geoff,
I have obviously missed it somewhere, but can you remind me please, of the length and width of the scenic section of the layout.
Many thanks.
Mark

I hope this rough sketch will answer your questions Mark, and offer an explanation as to why the layout looks bigger than it actually is......

P1210271-EDIT.jpg

The baseboards were designed to be shoehorned into a small room measuring approx 8ft 9" square, and to run diagonally across it on a sweeping curve. This means you can't see both ends of the layout at the same time, so your eye is forced to follow the sweep of the railway, which helps to give a feeling of space and provides a run of approx 11ft 6". As you can see, the width of the layout varies and tapers down to 14" at the road overbridge, thanks to a senior moment that info. is missing from the plan, sorry . I don't use a fiddleyard and assemble trains on the last scenic section between the river and road bridges. That might seem strange, but Bleddfa Rd isn't about extensive operation, it's about modelling a stretch of railway in the countryside that is on its last legs, and struggling to survive.

Well, 'wow' just doesn't cut it! I will be delighted if I can get my efforts halfway near yours!

Thanks Nick, there's no reason why you can't go one better on your Peter Tavy project.

Hi Geoff,
Many thanks for your explanation. The layout certainly looks larger than the dimensions! I have some bare baseboards
14 feet by 21 inches, plus a 14xx, two 57xx, two 45xx and a 4575. It’s making me think, I had better sit down!

The fine weather has put paid to any serious modelling sessions, but in odd moments I've managed to add some to fencing and another layer of static grass.

P1210310-EDIT(1).jpg
I've made no attempt to model the fencing in a pristine state, so the post are no longer vertical, rails are missing and repairs have been made.

P1210302-EDIT.jpg

I've used the lasercut card fencing produced by Scale Model Scenery, which with a little care can be manipulated to follow the lie of the land. The card doesn't look too bad in its natural state, but I applied a few gentle washes of Lifecolor smoke, and frame dirt weathering pigments.

P1210298-EDIT.jpg

With the new fencing in place along the railway boundary, the old fence which was partly hidden by the hedgerow on the left was removed.

P1210306-EDIT.jpg

The scene today waiting for some ungated crossing warning signs, the gate close to the back scene opens out onto a meadow that drops away to the River Lugg.

Geoff.
