In the 26 & 27 I found that there is precious little room for a speaker, despite Heljan's comments, but there are three spigots between the motor and the decoder area which are drilled and tapped (thread unknown) so I drilled and tapped them for 8BA bolts



- the hole in the bottom right corner of the plasticard speaker support is waiting for its bolt to be fitted. The speaker connection on the PCB is just to the right of the sellotaped bunch of wires rom the roof fan motor and lights.

Fingers crossed that the sound can be restored. Sorry for the thread hi-jack Richard.

I was sorting out a problem with a Class 56, the sound had disappeared.

It turned out the speaker had failed, a new speaker and the sound is back.

Have you checked yours ?

Many thanks for your suggestion.

I have now tried all three speakers that I have - two from stock and the other supplied with the decoder. I sent the loco, decoder and the newly supplied speaker to YouChoos yesterday and I have my fingers crossed for an easy solution, such as you say a duff speaker. I'll let you know the outcome.
