DCC PowerCab Update

I've just seen an announcement by Mark Gurries on the NCE Yahoo Group that the update for the Powercab firmware has arrived at last. Here's Mark's resume of the new features

PowerCab Software Update Notes Version: 1.65
Summary of new features:

1) All throttles now have up to 6 recalls.
The default is two recalls just like the PowerPro system.

2) Support for 3 external throttles.
Cab address 3 as before, 4 now becomes official PLUS 5 has been
added. Total of 4 Cab/throttles.

3) Support for 3 AIU, USB or Mini-Panels in addition to the
extra throttles
These devices use cab address 8, 9 and 10. Hence there is no
loss of Cab/throttles when adding AIU, USB or MiniPanels to the
PowerCab system. But to keep you honest, Cabs/throttles will
not work at cab address 8, 9 or 10.

4) New thumbwheel control of CV programming values
In the program CV feature of the PROGRAM ON MAIN menu you can
now use the speed buttons or thumbwheel to change the CV values
dynamically. Each button press or thumbwheel movement sends the
next higher or lower value to the decoder. You can still enter
CV data the old way by pressing number buttons as before.
Pressing ENTER or PROG/ESC will exit this mode. This is useful
for setting start voltage, sound volumes, etc. You literally
can adjust the volume of a sound decoder by using the thumbwheel
as a "volume knob".

5) Easy “memory” operation of the last thrown turnout
If you press SELECT ACCY twice in a row. the last used accessory
will toggle to the opposite position.

6) Programmable ‘ProCab mode’ timeout so multiple PowerCabs
can be used together.
When two PowerCab power up at the same time, there is the
possibility of both becoming PowerCabs at the same time or the
WRONG PowerCab becoming the PowerCab for the layout. You can
force which PowerCab will come up first into PowerCab mode to
power and run the layout. The second PowerCab will now always
come up as a ProCab.

7) Support for Analog Fast Clocks

8) New, improved USB/computer commands

[Edit] Should have added that the upgrade costs $26 to registered users.

Mmmm... reading through that lot, I'm not sure I need any of it, except the increase to 6 locos in the recall stack - and having recently bought and wired in a SB3a Booster, I think I have that facility now anyway..? (No I hadn't checked, yet!! )

Jordan,

As far as I can tell, the upgrade only applies when the PowerCab is working as a PowerCab. It won't make any difference to you if you are using an SB3a. I'm thinking of getting the upgrade for my PowerCab just to get a few more recalls (I did like the many recalls possible with my Dynamis) and some more channels to give a bit more elbow room when using the USB interface.

I also found out that the nice red Emergency Stop button only works on the loco the cab is actually controlling at the time, not every loco running...
I think pressing it twice stops everything, but it's been a while since I used mine so might be wrong.
