Rhymney Railway/GWR 14ton Mineral Brake Van.

Several enquiries have been made about the pedigree of a Cae Harris brake van seen working through Pantyffynon Junction. This is an ex Rhymney Railway 14ton Toad made from a brass Redcraft kit. I have attached a picture of it outside Graig Wen shed and the lamp has since been straightened (the mounting hole is packed with blutac so that it can move slightly instead of breaking off) and the bottom of the "S" has also been retouched. Custom made water slide transfers were used but, even under a coat of varnish, they are starting to break up! No end lamp irons were provided for tail lamps as there was an internal box for them with a round hole for the light to shine through. I'm not sure how effective this was in daylight as the signal man was supposed to check for a tail lamp to prove the train was complete. Perhaps a wave from the guard to the signal man was acceptable?
Derek Harris of Redcraft is no longer at the address and phone number at the top of the instruction sheet but can be contacted at 07774 569221 and the email address is: redcraftengineering@outlook.com .
