Time for an update.

Sarsden was taken down into storage in my other shed while I commenced my new Buncombe project.

Sarsden is slightly relocated back in the main shed with the new layout on the top.....................



I`ve had to fit some temporary strengtheners to the front of Sarsden`s modules...just in case of damage while I finish Buncome.

Whilst testing all the electrics I noticed that Sarsdens Engine shed (Resin modified kit) has not coped with high temperatures. The roof being thinner mouldings has warped badly beyond recovery.....



So I`ve replaced with an Intentio kit I made a while back.........................................



Just need to do some cable housekeeping from the upstairs neighbour !!!

I know that engine shed! Shipston on Stour with the local South Warwickshire brick pattern nicely replicated! There is still the coal office with the same brick pattern in someone’s garden but everything else there is long gone.

I think it`s mostly down to Phil at Intentio and his high quality brick laser cutting..............



Brickwork is meticulously hand painted with enamels , left to dry thoroughly for a couple of days and then I used a mortar colour enamel paint
flooded on to the brickwork in stages and wiped off quickly leaving it behind in the grooves.

Recently I`ve used acrylic tester pot paint as the mortar...

This is a Railmodel kit using acrylic mortar in the same way.

Winter work sees a new auto coach build .....





and Sarsden will be having a new engine shed........................



This is one of Intentio Phil`s early engine shed kits which I am in the process of Greatwesternizing !!!

So , just the door hinges to paint up and Sarsden`s shed is done.....quite easy to convert a GER shed kit...I just changed the E to a W to get GWR..and then got myself to sleep by thinking all things Greatwestern!!!

Not taken the covers off the layouts yet this year, but I have been converting myself over to airbrushing with acrylics for the first time ( as a way of speeding up my airbrushing projects drying times.

So , the late Adrian Swain`s ABS wagon kits are the first to be tried.

Rail match Acrylic GWR freight stock grey.... A little lighter than I`m accustomed to, but a very favourable finish over over my usual Precision Enamels....



All wagons have an etch primer base coat using Clostermans rattle can Grey

Next is Railmatch Coal Black acrylic with a top coat of the new Pledge tile and floor wax as a base coat for Methfix transfers ( the meths does soften the floor wax) but is rescued by a further protective coating after the transfers are in place.



Then Adrian`s shunters truck finally lettered up.....

Covers came off both layouts yesterday.....

Sarsdens new shed is looking quite good me thinks so just need to bed it in as well as all the surrounding bits and bobs.

Hi Michael,

A convoluted story I`m afraid.......

I wasted £50 on a terrible resin kit.....



and in true modellers venturing I kept one use full part... the landing moulding at the top of the access ladder.

I studied many books and magazines and finally came across this reasonably common style of tower on which I based my build using guessometry.



my only drawing is this one on plasticard to mark out some rivetting.



and the rest is scratch building to fit my location....





.....hopefully following GWR practice...

Well, it`s been well over a year since I switched on the power for Sarsden .... I was really pleased that everything worked perfectly with no wiring problems at all.

Looking over the Engine Shed area I really missed the badly warped stone built version I had put away.



So, over the past week I`ve been rescuing the badly warped resin shed by completely rebuilding the roof and straightening the shed walls.

It`s been a `belt and braces` job this time as one of the problems had been that the original roof had been made to be removable and du to heat had changed into a boat shape.

The new roof is permanent and the framing is over scale Shellac coated wood.



................ and then overlays of 2mm plasticard....





I`ve re-fashioned the roof vent into a more solid structure and this evening I scored all the roof tile markers ready for some Yorkmodelrail roof tiles.








Paint shop over the weekend and then finished by the end of the coming Bank Holiday

A few small finishing touches to go.... but the stone shed ( ex Invertrain Models) is back........



.............. always get carried away with roof tiles....so an Oliver Postgate shed methinks....
