SWAG RMweb Members Day 2024

I arrived shortly after 11 and it was a really nice show, lots of good modelling with much socialising going on too. Regrettably I didn't last long, the lack of ventilation causing my chest to misbehave. I fled to the air-con in the car!

Morning,

Well, I think it went well. Lovely to meet up with so many old friends and make new ones as I certainly met quite a few visitors for whom it was their first visit to SWAG. It certainly seemed busier than last year with a rough count from the catering and bring and buy supporting that feeling.

Lovely to have Simon along with his big boys toys and meet up with a few fellow Western Thunderers.

These were taken before the doors opened.

Thanks for this Rob, I was just telling my wife about all the model railway shows in the UK. Where I live we get one huge show once a year and it is exhausting. I would much prefer a few smaller shows like the one you have shown.

Jamie Warne aka Southern Region Steam is a very talented modeller and has had his work featured in BRM as well as being commissioned by BRM to photograph layouts for the magazine.
He is also a very nice chap.

I can confirm that SWAG'25 will be held on.....

SUNDAY 6TH APRIL 2025.

Please note the shift to the beginning of the month, made for a variety of reasons.

Hall is booked and deposit paid.

☆The fact that we can go ahead and do this is entirely due to the success of this year's jolly modellers day out and in particular, the generous donations made to the cause by both our visitors and a few very kind souls, who despite being unable to attend have still contributed.☆

Is it the same Middleton Top that regularly featured on RMWeb?
I recall the images invariably showed it photographed outside, carefully positioned with the real thing (at least I assumed it was the Peak District) as the background.

You're thinking of Ladmanlow by Alistair Green. Sadly, Al has not posted for some time but he did indeed pop the layout into his ( or his brother's) Range Rover and drive off piste into the Derbyshire hills early one morning. Ladmanlow was then set up and photographed against the backdrop. We had the layout at SWAG'22. The dry stone walls, each stone individually cut from plasticard, were exquisite.
