I did a quick print on the filament printer to see what it looks like and stuck the two halves on an axle.

San Juan, Atlas, Atlas with axle cover, Protocraft p48 70 ton roller bearing truck.

Looks promising if sticking with O gauge. Probably doesn't need the collars at the end of the axle as the insulating bushes are there. (Have to be careful to avoid aggressive topiary appearing).

I think I will have to re-jig it a bit.
I suspect that the wheel is pushed onto the axle right up to the flange so I will trim the ends, stretch it to 26.9 mm long and re do the little counterbore to clear the knurling.
Later tonight when I have worked through SWMBO's list ........

Jordan,
You can send your order in any time.
When it gets printed is another matter entirely:)

Seriously though, I do need to get the Mars back up and running before the New Year gets too old.
How many do you need?
PM if you prefer.

84 little (half) soldiers awaiting a printer.
84 v 001.jpg

At less than tuppence an axle for the resin it isn't really worth doing them any other way - life is too short.
Now to get the printer back up and running, knock a couple of prints out and flirt them off to Jordan by Royal Snail.

Hi Rob, can't let this opportunity of a one evening project slip by ... may I put my name down for 8 halves please.
Jason
Eight halves, is that all??
My count was 30 cars with Atlas trucks, so 60 trucks. Four axles per car = 120 axles*, which = 240 halves!! :)

* hence why I want half-axle prints - I have no desire to dismantle & reassemble 60 trucks and 120 wheelsets, as well as those cars which would need dismantling to get the trucks off in the first place  ;)

Prototype for Everything time....
You model a modern U.S. Short Line. Modern industrial units, graffiti on boxcars, , etc.
You fancy running a steam engine once in a while, on your normal freight services, but fear the self-appointed experts and know-alls will chortle, point & scoff, with hoots of derisive laughter at the folly of your ways.

Fear not, and shove this in their faces....

Printer up and running.
Jordan please PM your snail mail address.
Sorry about the colour.
Eono Water Washable resin "Red Wax" colour.
Looks more like Action Man flesh pink...........

Do any of you US-oriented folk have a copy of this 1987 photographic essay of North American railroads?
If not I would urge you to take immediate steps to rectify that situation!

Book 1.jpg

So much inspiration for modelling in this book - if I weren't so strong-willed I'd be knocking some bits of ply together right now and converting a plastic kit of a B-24 Liberator back into a boxcar :))
B24.jpeg

I had intended to share a few pages here but I'm really quite lost as to which ones to choose.....

Edit:
No diesel content, just steam trains and infrastructure (and wonderful scenic railway views with at times not a train in sight) in high quality print.

Great pics Tony, I couldn't resist looking for a 'today' pic, here's a pic from my camper van, er ... Google. Nice 'driving' round Cumberland, MD. Snap out of it Jason.

The corner building across the tracks still has the 'Taxi' and the adjacent 3-storey buildings there, but beyond that is now ... a gas station. Jump in and we can go for a look. Aaah ... Western Maryland ....

Grab the link and head down Queens City Dr to the crossing:
