From Llangunllo to Llanbister Rd.

Fresh out of the works, though you wouldn't think so judging by its filthy condition 2217 passes through a deserted Llangunllo with a short goods train.

A couple of days later on a Spring Bank Holiday Monday she was captured drifting into Llangunllo in charge of the Kington portion of a day return excursion from the Welsh coast. The train had been split at Llanbister Road, the main portion continuing to Shrewsbury, well I can dream can't I ?

P1110422 (800x406).jpg

.........and here she is again leaving for Whitton, Presteign, Titley Junction and Kington.

Have a word with the shed master would you please, and ask him to have the loco cleaned for the next photo session.

Thanks.

Actually 2217 looks great and would be entirely inappropriate if clean.

Although I'm not a GWR fan your layout oozes character.

Thanks Brian, that's very kind of you :).

The only clean Collett goods that I've ever seen was 3205 down on the SVR years ago!

Due to the small size of the layout its becoming increasingly difficult to come up with new photos so I apologise if you are getting tired of seeing the same old thing. Last week the telegraph poles were installed, the old iron lamp hut was finally painted and a few little details added around the station building. Work is currently well under way on planting out the veg. on the allotment and some ramshackle potting and tool sheds are taking shape which means the 'to do' list is getting shorter by the day.

From this angle its rather difficult to disguise the exit hole in the backscene and not owning any fancy software such as photoshop there is little I can do about it, however from the operating position they can't be seen and so the illusion is maintained.

P1110547 (800x445).jpg

1455 is seen here approaching the station with a single coach and a couple of milk tanks. She was of course a regular on the real Presteign branch along with 7416 which will hopefully make an appearance on the layout before the year is out.

P1110532 (800x474).jpg

The remaining telegraph poles, they are nothing more than refined Ratio mouldings, I've also added a water standpipe which is just visible against the station building and though you can't see them in this view some grids have been let into the platform surface beneath the buildings downpipes.

As usual the station is deserted, a luggage trolley and some fire buckets will complete the scene, I didn't notice the milk tanks on the sector plate when taking this shot.
In a few weeks time the layout should be finished, the final photos uploaded here and then I shall quit whilst I'm ahead before I bore you all to death.

One of the quality tests of a layout is what it looks like without any stock.

Yours passes this with flying colours:thumbs:

It's a million times removed from the urban ambience I am trying to create, but I think it's absolutely lovely.

Thank you Richard,

Strangely enough when I was younger I started to model something along the same lines as your excellent 'Heyside' but didn't have enough space and now that I have the space I've gone in the other direction!

Having returned from holiday I've been busy working on the allotment scene so here are a few photos showing the current state of play.
Someone is casting an eye on the allotments as 1455 prepares to set back into the goods yard.

The lovely allotment huts are the work of my good friend Iain Robinson who asked if he could build something for the layout and what a superb job he has made of them. The following two photos were taken by Iain and show the amazing detail that he has managed to include in what are extremely small models.

Rear View (800x438).jpg

Whilst Iain had been working his magic using traditional modelling materials I was concentrating on the runner bean frames which are made from garden brush bristles and the various plant life which has been made from tissue paper, sisal string, rice and strands of Silflor. An article by Chris Pilton in MRJ No.5 and Barry Normans 'Landscape Modelling' book came in very useful whilst attempting to model the various produce.

A gardener from the Monty's range of figures will soon appear and then another chapter in the Llangunllo saga will come to an end.

Looking from the other direction the late evening sun is catching one of the huts, just a little work remains on this side of the gate which guards the entrance to the abandoned quarry and then the layout will be complete.

Outstanding work, Geoff, truely superb.

Thank you Tim, that means an awful lot to me coming from one of my modelling hero's. :)

I love the door in the window frame superb this just gets better and better
Regards
John

Thank you John,
Iain certainly played a blinder with that one, the roof is also worthy of note as are the fully detailed interiors.

Both interior photos by Iain Robinson.
