I came to the same conclusion with glass, whilst it does have great reflectivity it is a PITA to cut. I use optical grade acrylic which is excellent, I also replace the cab glazing with it, the downside is the cost.

Im awaiting a batch of Mylar which is excellent for pre cut window masks if you choose to glaze before painting

Cynric, where do you get your acrylic and Mylar from, as a number of the window panels supplied with the kit are poor/mishapen and will need replacing (in fact, I think I'll replace them all).

Did you do some etches for opening cab windows too? I'd really appreciate it if I could get a hold of some of those......

Dan did the cab window surrounds. I get my acrylic from an instrument company in 8x4ft sheets and I laser it. doing it by hand would be the road to hell. I havent drawn up a full set - yet, but as it happens I have a wessie on the WB right now I could send you a sample cab window......

With regard to the windows, if you're running a set off then I'd gladly purchase a set from you - to go with the "workbench tidies!" on order

Nothing much to add tonight. Just been drilling out and push-fitting the 2mm brass bearings into the fan mounting plates ready to screw-fix to the underside of the roof sections, and in preparation for fitting the somewhat crude home-made worm & cog drives to get them a-spinnin'. I'll post some pics when I've got a few of them up and running.

Hi Phill, They'll be 1 x Ron Chaplin (D1063), 3 x ABC's (D1026, D1065, D1009) , and one (D10xx) probably Slaters (JLTRT) due to indecision with the client . All bogies will be poweredwhich means extra workbut "Hey", I'm happy!

Having used both of them the performance is good with either, it depends if you want to replace the JLTRT resin and are prepared to pay the extra. In round figures with a Maxon it comes to £220 vs £380 I have a motor bogie on the bench for one of mine and im unsure whether to get another, or flog it and get twin gearboxes..... swings roundabouts etc

No, they are fine up to 8 or 9 coaches which is what you would expect, but having built several Peaks, 50's and other Westerns with two it just gives a bit more leeway.

I can send you a couple of test pieces for a windscreen if you like? you can see what the acrylic is like. This stuff is quite expensive but its as good as anything I have found. I have done several sets to replace the cast glazing in JLTRT mk1's and the owner was delighted

Just seen that pic of all the control desks: It looks like an examination hall for D1xxx drivers at Swindon works.....

The empty desks are for the swotty types who finished early and have already gone, LOL.

I really like the ABC gearbox sets, and will be quite happy with the "standard" + delrin which always perform well for me. The motor bogie is very nice too, but just a tad expensive when doing both bogies in a mini fleet! For D1054 (which is currently also in the Workshop for bogie replacement and new wiring, she'll be getting new motor-bogies (If she passes her "F" Exam and isn't towed out to the scrap-line!).

Nothing really, just a refurb and then moving them into one of my others! Playing trains at Swindon - just like the real thing!

Actually, I'm also working on a mock engine and boiler to view through the sides, and the current internal layout isn't suitable for this on Governor, so there's a bit of redesigning going on...... (It helps to have access to D1013 and D1062 every other weekend or so I'm also building a spare bogie set so that a simple drop-down and replacement is available to keep the fleet running if any were to develop a fault out at a show, etc., but it's a fair bit of extra work to "standardise" them so that the quick change can be made without effecting the DCC/all lights/fans/decoders, etc., which will now all be body mounted, and only the drive motors and wiring will be chassis mounted.

Hi Boris, im very interested in your plans for fitting lights/dcc/decoder etc into the body. Plus i like the idea of being able to drop down a bogie and replace.
I am also interested in your mock engine and boilers. Mine were ok but look forward to seeing how you get on, there bound to be better than my poor effort. Pics please
