Hi Boris, im very interested in your plans for fitting lights/dcc/decoder etc into the body. Plus i like the idea of being able to drop down a bogie and replace.

I am also interested in your mock engine and boilers. Mine were ok but look forward to seeing how you get on, there bound to be better than my poor effort. Pics please

I'd also be interested in seeing how you go about installing lighting and decoder Ian. The way I did the lighting on "Rifleman", was the first idea that came into my head, but it's always good to see alternative thinking.

Likewise with the suggestion of engine/boilers behind the windows, though I have to say, I still find Rob's "Engine Theatres" very convincing and have been meaning to blag his idea for some time!

Hi Rob, Sorry things are not progressing apace at the mo, but I'll certainly be posting details when I get to them! I'm working on the fans at present, and my F-in-law has dropped off his proposed solution for the H/C lights, which comprises PCB mounted flat LEDs - they're quite impressive and will certainly save space, so there's 9 more on order to go with the prototype. The mock engines and boiler will not be constructed until after I get back down to Bridgenorth at the beginning of January. Pics of progress to follow.

In the meantime, anyone know or care to guess what this is?

Looks like some kind of rotary switch or isolation switch. I would imagine a lever would be fitted at one end.

Not bad at all, chaps. Yes, this is the reverser electro-mechanical switch from D1062 which has come home with me for a refubishment. When it came to me it was absolutely filthy, but not surprising considering where it lives on the loco, which is mounted above the reversing gearbox and manual over-ride, on the transmission block, and under the cooler group, at each end. There was barely any paint left on the cover (which was originally painted black), and the silicone seal had worn such that inside was caked in oily grime. Anyway, looks a lot better now, I think, and apart from having to replace one of the bakelite switches, it should be good for another 20 years or so when refitted in February.

If anyone's interested in this sort of stuff I'll keep you updated with what's going on with the D10xx's at SVR each month. My next job is stripping down the......... ah, well.... lets wait and see.

Now..... back to some modelling.

Been a busy week with work this week, so not too much progress on the '52's to report. Coupled to the new desktop PC arriving today, there's not been much modelling going on around here. However, I have managed to get the motor mounts, drive chain, and gears in situ for the 20 axles to drive the cooler group fans on all five locos, so I guess that's not so bad. I'm not happy with the wires on the motors which are just too thick to manage effectively, so next job will be replacing them with something a little more refined, and conduited (is that a real word?) to keep things tidy.

Next up will be trimming the white-metal fans (unless Brian at Shawplan scurries his Extreme etches for the '52 fans and grills along sharpish) - why are the JLTRT w/m fan castings so over-size? Quite a bit of work to trim up 20 fans by hand so I'm pondering on a milling solution......hmm.

Hoping for the rest of the headcode circuit-boards to arrive next week, so I should be posting a bit more on the wiring, and then back to the windows when the etches and glazing arrive (thanks Dan & Guv'nor)

I haven't forgotten about posting my plans for the lighting you're requested, and now the new PC's arrived I should be able to progress this soon.

Well and aborted trip to the WLA this weekend has meant I've managed to get around to fitting the firewire to my desktop, and I have now been able to make and post "Western Lights" - Part 1 - Making Holes!

The jig is dead simple - just two sheets, elevated to the right angles to make holes! I'll measure and post the dimensions if anyone wants to make one...

Lol.. thanks Roger. Yes, it should work just as well with 1/32 monsters - those Class 22s and Warships will be most impressive fully kitted out.

yes and you get the proper lens effect as well. I've been pleased with the result on the Western I have done.
