I was pondering how to work out dimensions - for my superdetailed Lima 33's (how would one go about dimensioned drawings for something like the Lima 33? :scratch: .

I would be interested in flush glazing for my Heljan 35, 47 and 37 if you are proposing to go into production. There are some issues with the 47 and 37's window shapes/surrounds which MMP (47) and Shawplan (37) have - and may have - solutions to (respectively), yet I, for one, would be happy with just better glazing

Vernier calipers! As far as any other locos are concerned I need either dimensions and/or the body in my mitts. experience so far suggests that rather than trying to get it spot on it is best to to be a few thou oversize and to use a sanding stick to get a perfect fit.
At the moment things are pretty busy as i am also looking after the kids on some days, but from September I will have every morning free which will make a huge difference.

I've been really busy so apologies for only just catching up with your thread. Thunderer looks great and I can only agree with all the positive comments so far. Sounds like you've started up a bit of a buisness already  going back to a comment you made on your loose ends thread if you have any intentions of drawing up etched w-irons for your fifteen or so mineral wagons in future you could count me in for twenty of so sets. Like you said it gets expensive from other suppliers with those kind of numbers

The parkside kit comes with a choice.
I need to do some woodgrain next which should be fun, but I need the practice as I want to to my big Slaters PO soon

I have a couple of those too.  I think they're cracking models and are just crying out to be heavily distressed and weathered.    I like the job Fred Lewis did on his 16 tonners in the gallery.

Hi Cynric,

looking good, but you should be careful about the difference in scales when testing your weathering, try the larger scale test on a piece of equal scale/size piece of plasticard that you have scribed on the planks, it will give you a better feel for the effect than scaling up having produced the effect on a 7mm van.

Whilst waiting for the paint to dry on the 105 I have been getting on with this build. I have built about half a dozen of these kits now so they are pretty straightforward by now, but I thought I would include these shots to show the filling procedure and a few little tips
Firstly the side after all the major gaps have been filled and before the application of a light coat of primer. I use squadron putty as the main filler and one handy hint is to use IPA and a cotton bud to remove any excess 'snots' of squadron as the less sanding you d the less chance of detail being lost. You will also notice the cab rainstrips have been removed, they will be reinstated later with some plastic strip after the filling is complete. Also note the where the roof has been cut in half and an insert used to line the grills up.



Second shot shows it after the first coat of primer and minor filling and more sanding.



I have yet to add the interiors as I prefer to do all the messy stuff first, once the body is ready it is possible to squeeze the desk in by rotating it 90 degrees and the screwing the bulkhead in place.

Phill, yes twin ABC power bogies! In terms of performance the diesel power unit is just as good, and a lot cheaper for two bogies.
Rob, there has been talk of Maroon for it as well...
I'm now on second stage primer and cab painting, and I keep wondering about an etch for the perforated sound proofing in the cab  :scratch: this one is also getting the sun blinds and I really ought to do a few transfers for the cab as well.

The diesel power unit is good, I don't think you necessarily  need a maxon coreless motor.

I thought about doing that for Rifleman, but decided I'd already spent enough time on modifications & enhancements.  Having said that, I'd be very interested in seeing the end result if you go ahead with it.

it would have to be about 4 thou as it needs to be very fine, infact probably so fine you wouldnt notice
I need to do one of these signs


and I did think about doing something with these


Or am I going nuts? I think I could build 50 Westerns and not get bored with them 8)

I fancy Maroon full yellow, but only if I can get the shade right ie faded and sightly orange, but then I have a jar of desert sand and a set of plated for d1000  :scratch:
