4mm Llanfair

I had hoped that changing to 7mm might enliven my lack of interest. It didn't, so I have had to force myself to complete this building. The next move is Western Thunder Sales....

Sorry to read that Larry, I think we all lose interest from time to time, I certainly do. You could perhaps try a change of layout plan and model a smaller goods shed and station building. Doing that would free up more space, and create an open feeling. I was thinking of the track plan at Dyserth, but with different buildings, forget the LNWR connection, and put a GWR stamp on it. You already have an autocoach for passenger services, add a 14xx and a pannier or two, say a dozen wagons, and away you go. Just an idea to help get you back on track,

Sorry to read this again Larry, but I fully understand, as like you I have been back and forth several times and around the block more than once as well. I have currently boxed my 4mm 90's era stock and also put a vast amount on E-Bay. A visit to Gaugemaster a few weeks ago, and a friend pointed out NG7 = O Gauge / 16.5mm Track = Alice, and having ridden behind it in the Directors Saloon with Julian Birley driving to test some re built Slate Wagons, I am now looking at that in a preservation period for a complete change of direction. Who knows, it may work, it may not, but its still a hobby I cant walk away from. All the best my friend, take care. Andy.

I know what your going through, i had the same issue a few years back, You as many others like building the layout and not running it, What i did was change the gauge, I went to e m gauge, And changed the region i modelled, I went southern region, I have no knowledge of anything southern, but researching it was part of the interest for me anyway, so if i was you have some time off , and in a couple of months your have a brain wave and get right back into it.

At the end of the day, I still prefer the layout completely undercover. I bought fencing posts and timber to build an outdoor loop in the forlorn hope it would 'force' me into building the darn thing.

I seem to have struck gold with the warm weather and fresh air. Llanfair now has widely spaced yard tracks for coal and general goods. The loop takes three coaches. Shunting is easy because there is no overlapping of points. I could add more track, but it isn't needed really. This was how things looked this morning after spraying the track .....

I knew a chap who bought a 2K Second Hand Portacabin, when it was delivered and hoisted into his Garden he was amazed. It had come off a Golf course, Double glazed windows with internal blinds between the glazing, carpeted, fitted kitchen at one end, power points all around and full strip lighting.
SO, Live in there and Build the layout around ALL the rooms in your Bungalow Larry.

Another Chap I knew bought a cheap 2nd Shed, and attached it to his original, doubling its length for about 500 ponds (EDIT = POUNDS = Thanks Phil O) plus the extra bass.

My NEW MONEY is on NG7, O gauge Buildings etc, OO Gauge Track and in a small Radius to fit in the shed.

PLUS, PLUS, PLUS LOTS of Local inspiration just along the road. Run as preserved so run what you fancy.

What’s wrong with EM? Should keep modelling interest longer than straightforward OO and O. What’s more, my layout is EM, and I may be able to buy the remnants! Just a thought.

The shed at the back of the baseboard with the coal road at the front makes for a more open yard. The signalman is happier....!

I don't suppose that the carters are very impressed though! Reverse in and side-load only.

The unobstructed view from the signalbox allowed me to slew over the coal road to give more yard space around the goods shed. Plenty of room for a goods yard approach road behind the station buildings.....



The tiny signal box now carries a name....

Back in the Greenfield days, I recall you saying you would never model Delph because it was too sleepy and nothing ever happened there, so I do wonder.......
