Weathered Locos & Stock

The first Lionheart 3MT tank loco I’ve had the chance to weather.
A lovely model to work on.
I particularly enjoyed creating the contrast between the relatively clean tank sides and the filthy boiler.
*Apologies for the bendy cab handrails, couldn’t find a way to straighten them

Ref the handrails , surely the bends have been caused by the driver and fireman lugging themselves up into the cab .
Fantastic work Neil , is the sheen on the wheels metalcote paint or lead pencil ?

Another masterpiece, Neil.

Admiration aplenty with regard to the boiler, especially the textured area. I suppose that’s the benefit of weathering in the larger scales: it allows the freedom to replicate this sort of detail.

I’ve toyed with this in 4mm scale, but it’s simply overscale and an eyesore each time I look back at past examples, but I enjoyed having a bash.

If only I had the room………..oh yes, and the skill!

Thank you All, very much, very kind.
I’m looking forward to seeing it on Pencarrow Chris!

Jonte; thank you as always.
I do agree, texture is very hard to replicate the further down the scales you go.
In 4mm scale, which to confess I do little of, I tend to work with matt and ultra matt finishes. I think that possibly gets close enough to texture in 4mm scale and smaller.

Love seeing these updates and another stunning piece of work! As Jonte says the texture is superb on the boiler, as is the contrast between the oily rag cleaned sides and everywhere else.
That is so lifelike!

Completed along with the STD 3MT previously I’ve finished the weathering on this Finney7 ‘Spam Can’ kit build by MD Modelling.
It has the upgraded metal casing with 3D resin roof pack and interior smokebox unit.
It’s painted by W Haywood.
A really lovely model to work on, especially with all Mick’s extras.
The model needs Mick to fit the drain cock pipe work, plus a few other odds and ends.
The pipe work in the floor is my highly unlikely scenario that this scene is out the back of a shed on the SR, and there’s an issue, hence the pipes being removed.
It should also be chocked and have a NOT TO BE MOVED sign on it too, but it’s just a bit of fun.IMG_1892.jpegIMG_1884.jpegIMG_1887.jpegIMG_1796.jpegIMG_1793.jpegIMG_1792.jpegIMG_1800.jpeg
