4mm West Halton Sidings - Signal Box

Distracted by Big Trains

Not much modelling over the last few days, flu (I think, Covid like but tested negative, bloody horrible!) got both my nine year old daughter and me. We spent time snuggled up on the sofa binge watching Dr Who and the test match. Every cloud... :)

Saturday saw downstairs taken over by Playmobil.

The yellow diesel made it's entry into service.

Sunday we visited the East Wressle and Brind Railway today, it's the first time it has opened to the public, part of the National Garden Scheme. It's a delightful little railway inspired by the lines of Colonel Stephens.

Sadly the railway wasn't operating today but maybe another time?

Something I've been working on over the last year as and when I've felt up to it is the signal box controlling the junction with the exchange sidings.

It has a shell of 60 thou Plastikard with framing from 20 thou and individually applied planks from 100 x 10 thou Evergreen strip.

    Steps from York Model Making..

I initially made the roof from Plastikard but made a replacement from 10 thou brass.

    I'm struggling with the windows.

I initially made windows using 10 thou square strip on 1mm Perspex using Plastic Weld. The method works well but I'm struggling with getting consistency between the different windows. My tremor's making placing the individual strips/pieces a bit of a challenge.
