Looking from the other direction the late evening sun is catching one of the huts, just a little work remains on this side of the gate which guards the entrance to the abandoned quarry and then the layout will be complete.

I particularly like this picture, the most 'natural' in terms of viewpoint of the set I think. The exquisite detail just merges to give depth to the whole. Just lovely.

Thanks Adam,

Over the past few weeks much detail has been added, I started off by butchering the old Ratio weighbridge hut from Penhydd. Its meant to represent a ruined hut serving the same purpose near the disused quarry entrance.

In the meantime Iain kindly produced some warning notices for the quarry gate.

A pair of wicket gates now stand beside the goods yard level crossing, a new farm gate replaces the one that was broken by one of our grandsons and a little more detail has been added around the coal yard which includes coal, cement sacks and a wheelbarrow, the hut beside the signal is meant to be an S&T store

Other details on the platform include some fire buckets, a trolley and a Nestles chocolate machine, I never did work out where to kick the damn things for a free bar.:( The lamps are a mix of Chris Leigh castings bought god knows when and Ratio post from their swan neck lamps, the lantern glass being from offcuts of flushglaze.

Only a few figures to paint now and the whole saga will come to a close.

Brilliant - I love this photo - the fine details finish this scene off perfectly. There's no silly cameos ( man chasing hat, sheep running down the lane etc.) the posters and signs on the building are spot on, the undergrowth, the balance of tones and details for me make this a cracking photo. Congratulations.

Thank you very much Adrian :)

Yes, it has the sense of quietness that country stations have.

Cheers Neil,
Track lifting next, is the offer of a 'Rat' and appropriate stock still on ? :D

I quite agree, it's a stunning scene. If I was 23mm tall and made of plastic, I'd willingly be glued to that platform bench for all eternity! :)

I'd be happy to diagram a Cambrian Coast 24 for a track lifting train, but I'd suggest it's way too premature, besides I think it'll be deployed at Morfa first.

Thanks Dan, get yourself scanned and printed and I will rent you a square inch of layout, price will depend on the location :D

I'm hoping to see a lot more of Morfa before the wrecking crew arrives Neil.

WOW, what a layout, this just oozes atmosphere, there is so much to see on this layout, brilliant.
Craig.
Thank you Craig

Utterly superb, Geoff, workmanship of the highest order and a wonderfully evocative scene.

Thank you Tim, I'm not so sure about the workmanship being of the highest order, you should see the dodgy bits, but I try my best

Aaahhh! From the DVD WeIsh Byways, I take it?

If you are referring to the 24 Martin you will have to ask Mr. Rushby as he posted it here as a joke when I axed Penhydd ?

Anyway moving on, I'm not sure how the following photos are going to go down because I've added a little life in the form of a few figures from the excellent Montys range. Normally I avoid adding figures because they are difficult to paint, have to be chosen carefully and its so easy to add too many, I will leave it to you to decided if I've avoided those pitfalls

The porter sat on the trolley is having a break and digesting the local news, whilst the slip of a girl is waiting to make a phone call,
meanwhile the coal man continues to bag the black stuff.

This is perhaps my favourite shot and came about by sheer accident whilst cropping a larger image, I wonder what's going through his mind as he gazes into the distance?

Well someone has to keep the allotments in shape and dispense some advice.

Its official Llangunllo is now complete, so I'll leave you with these two photos which show the whole layout and head to my workbench where many other projects await my attention.

Always on the lookout for new photo opportunities this one was taken from the road bridge looking towards Llanbister Road.

This shot might look familiar but it now features the final pieces of the jigsaw, in closing I would like to thank everyone for their likes, comments and suggestions, all of which I really appreciate. I'll still be posting photos of new and improved stock on the layout as they come off the production line so its not goodbye.

Thank you,
Geoff

Thank you Alan, you're not the only one who is gobsmacked, as I never expected such a simple layout to create so much interest.

In Llangunllo you have skillfully observed and re-created both a landscape and type of railway, each of which hold great appeal to many of us. However your real genius, I think, is in the composition. You have created a yearningly beautiful picture that fascinates and draws the viewer in. No mean achievement on such a small pallette and I think the figures add to the effect too.

We've just returned from a few days on the Mon and Brec and although I appreciate it's a different part of the Principality I have once again come away in awe of the beauty of Wales. Your "mere" model moves me in the same way.

What can I say apart from thank you for your kind words Simon,

For the past week or so I've been casting a critical eye over the layout and came to the conclusion that I had lost the plot as regards the colouring and composition of the scenery around the quarry area. So having found a new supplier of MiniNatur static grass fibres I set about correcting my mistakes. To begin with I removed some bushes and a section of hedgerow because I felt the scene was overcrowded and then I applied what is known as 'winter grass' or 'late fall', I chose the 4.5 mm fibres and built up the height of the grass by adding more as I saw fit.

This was the scene before I started....................

P1120247 (800x273).jpg

.............and this is how things look today

P1120255 (800x421).jpg

To my eyes the area around the embankment has been opened up and looks more natural

P1120251 (800x302).jpg
I can't see any other changes being made now as I'm happy with things as they stand but is a layout ever finished ?

I couldn't possibly disagree with your decision to modify the embankment and yes - it does look better. But to suggest you lost the plot leaves those of us who don't understand the plot in first place at a bit of a loss.........

Wonderful stuff, Geoff and so atmospheric.
