Fascinating thanks Giles. Last night I was reading a rather boring article in Transport Engineer about the merits of different types of industrial gloves that are now compulsory wear in most heavy goods & PSV garages. Then I saw the state of the fingers of the my fellow Colchester residents in the foundry and complete lack of gloves being worn by anyone in the factory. Times have changed! Colchester Lathes factory is now in Yorkshire and the old site shown in the film is mostly covered by a giant Tesco supermarket.

I've now sorted a RTR cobble embossing tool. As usual, it will do the 4ft, the 2ft (for narrow gauge), and the 6ft.
This was my first test with air-drying clay.

You should - it's fun.... my ideal k20 gearmotors aren't available any more - but a 6mm 100rpm gearmotor would do this well (as fitted in the 4mm Atkinson Borderer) - just not quite as brilliant at the incredibly slow crawl of the k20.

The ship being built to 1:43 (rather than 1:48) is gently progressing.....
The wheel-house is now taking shape - laser cut from Trotec, and intended for glazing, when I work out what colour to paint it!

It will have a flying bridge on top, but I've given it a larger wheel-house than the original kit had, and of a slightly less ancient pattern.

I've been looking for someone who did these in 7mm for ages, I've done a load in a plaster mould for our layout but I am not 100% happy with them. Will have to keep you in mind when I eventually get back tot eh layout itself and can see how the ones I have done fit/look.

Was the wine bottle on the floor cause that's where you ended up drinking it Giles ?
This post of yours has reminded me that I have some large plans of a Thames Barge to re-scale to 1:43 scale, looking forward to building that!

Jim Beam for me occasionally, as for boat building I too have no desire to float my model on water, it'll be a total scratch build and will sit on a muddy barge bank along side the wharf on Bow Creek, eventually
