Managed a couple of hours out on the line after cooking lunch etc and before it got dark.

Putting my methodical hat on, I decided to fire up the angle grinder in order to create grooves in the concrete track bases in which to "lose" the track feeds. All was going well until the inevitable happened and I ran the disk against the rail :shit:

There was a slight diversion as I plugged in the big soldering iron and filled the resulting gouge with solder, cleaning back the repair with a sharp knife, small files and wet and dry paper. It now just looks like a "stain" on the rail head, an advantage of using steel I guess as the solder is roughly the same colour.

I didn't take a picture but here is another section that has been "grooved" showing how gloriously messy it all got.

After the excitement of yesterday, we went out in to the garden to run a few trains.

Joy of joys, after a bit of fine adjustment with a spanner the joints over the lift out bridge were better than they'd ever been before.

The Ruston poses over the satisfactory joint before returning to Wenbridge Junction yard with the works train (I wish!)

The plants on the embankment look to be getting established too... should look really good next year

The plants are still there, along with the track and wiring, you just can't see them at the moment

Paw prints would seem to indicate the earlier passage of a down "Atlantic Cats Express" :))

I nipped out on Christmas day morning having stuck the bird in the oven and cleared the line with a broom run horizontally along the track, which I like to think looks like the result of a snowplough being run through.

I tried to get a "different" shot and after a bit of contortionism by the hedge got this, which I quite like.

Me too....

I do worry about the effect of all this prolonged cold on my models (stored in boxes and cupboards, so at least they're dry, albeit cold), but maybe they are more hardy than we think...

I dunno... you're going to get caught out one day - posting pictures of the real thing like this one and expecting us to believe it's a model....
