Steve's detailing, finishing and weathering is jaw droppingly good, looking at "Albion" throughout the day was literally "just like the real thing" - a real joy to set eyes on.

At a much more mundane level, this shot highlights the differences between Cliff Barker (left) and Peco (right) track.

Great pictures Simon - thanks for sharing. Good to see your DMU cab put in an appearance in the last workbench shot, but it doesn't seem to have progressed much lately.....

My long suffering friend Dave came around today for a bit more work in the garden.

First job was to cut through the welded support for the timber trackbases on the lift out bridge frame, re-welding it back at a lower level so that the timber track base can be adjusted up or down by means of shimming between the support flange and timber, attached by two coach screws inserted from underneath. This was necessary because the timber had swollen, raising the track relative to the deck and causing a horrible level problem (previously pictured)

I can now fire the unsprung hair shirt wheels "test lowfit" across the bridge and it passes over both joints smoothly and without leaping off the track - result

Took a bit of translation but I take it that means your worst wagon runs okay there, so everything else will..! :scratch:

Nice to see there's still a place for Welding kit and Angle Grinders in railway modelling.... 8)

I have the same problem and have come up with a similar solution it's looking good though mate but isn't it demoralising when you have to go back and re-do a piece already 'completed' or so you thought.

Thanks for all the encouragement chaps, with all the shop preparations etc that may be the last major effort this year, although I really want to get that bridge mod finally sorted as its been bugging me all summer.

It is Ian, but the problem and how to cure it has been bugging me so much that the relief of finding a solution and getting it sorted are happily outweighing the "we'd already done that bit" feelings.

As ever, it owes a huge amount to my friend Dave, who shows great patience when confronted with my endless daft ideas for the innapropriate uses of welding rods and boiler plate

Managed a couple of hours out on the line after cooking lunch etc and before it got dark.

Putting my methodical hat on, I decided to fire up the angle grinder in order to create grooves in the concrete track bases in which to "lose" the track feeds. All was going well until the inevitable happened and I ran the disk against the rail

There was a slight diversion as I plugged in the big soldering iron and filled the resulting gouge with solder, cleaning back the repair with a sharp knife, small files and wet and dry paper. It now just looks like a "stain" on the rail head, an advantage of using steel I guess as the solder is roughly the same colour.

I didn't take a picture but here is another section that has been "grooved" showing how gloriously messy it all got.
