I seriously considered moving up to 1/32 a couple of years ago but I ended up staying 7mm because of the greater availability of kits and in the end I came to the conclusion that it's the largest practical indoor gauge for any scenic modelling. Having said all that I am rather envious.......

About ?12,000   [/quote:3n42g905]

oh 'eck! I reckon the best idea would be too get someone to draw up some sides in CAD to send off to the etchers so that you could make your own and drastically reduce the cost. Only tricky, or at least, time consuming bit is interiors and bogies...

Are r-t-r bogies availabe in G1?

JB.

Personally, my aspirations are for a three coach set in Southern Region green with guests hopefully bringing additional stock to run on running days. This would give me an authentic "Withered Arm" train for my Class 22 and the SR/WR transition which so fascinates me.
This is something that is becoming more of a force in my modelling as well, certainly my stock is moving in this direction.

I have been indulging today, in between doing some actual work on the line and stock I had quite a lot of a play :D

Here's the guard's view of a freight that ran around lunchtime, I was playing at taking videos and have produced some amusing but technically rubbish results.

I was even up early enough to catch the early morning milk train ;)

I'd better get something done around here quick before the boss gets home

Thats a nice shot of your 22 it just needs a couple of milk tankers and it could be the daily barnstable junction to meeth working stopping at torrington dairy to drop off the milk tanks .

Thanks Westernfan, maybe a bit like this? :p

I have only got the one milk tank, and I must admit that after building it I was pretty certain that it would be my last!

At worst I know quite a lot of people who have got them, so on running days we should be able to put up a credible milk train.

In the meantime mine very badly needs weathering, I have it in mind to recreate the condition of the grubby Express Dairies tank at Seaton Junction in David Larkin's book. At least today I pushed out the back to backs on the wheels so that it will run through my ScaleOne32 point. I also created more side play on the middle wheelset which has cured a slight derailing tendency, so all in all I like it quite a lot more now than I did when I took it out of its box this morning :)

I also lubricated the journals on this BR box van which has stopped it "groaning" and means that the 48DS will now (just about) manage to haul Lowfit, milk tank, van and Toad - the most it has ever managed.

I bought this van from Trevor Hale when he gave up on Gauge 1 a few years ago. He has very skilfully cut it down from the Slaters 10mm kit and it is very effective looking.

Cynric is quite right, it is a Slater kit.

The kit is very good, except that in a couple of places I just couldn't get the instructions to match what I had in the box, the bit that really threw me was the references to the number of tank supports.

To be fair, it is a very complicated prototype and the open nature of the underframe requires that you cant skimp on what is underneath either, which the kit doesn't.

That said, I had particular problems with the brass trapping over the tank and resorted to using plastikard strips over the tank married to shorter lengths of the brass strip at the bottom edges, attached to the Slaters castings as per instructions. This results in a non prototypical joint in the strapping but having studied pictures and crawled over a real one this doesn't bother me as the variations in detail on these tanks is enormous.

I also thickened up the W irons wit thin Plastikard as they looked too skimpy to my eyes and altered the wheel guards arrangement so that the wheels can be taken out. This involved doing something with the axleboxes but I have forgotten what it was, and making removable ties that go across the bottom irons.

I also ditched the plastic supplied for vac and steam through pipes and replaced with good old copper, from some armoured cable I had lying around, much easier to form to shape and I soldered the brass fittings to each end.

All that said it builds into a really good model of a very fiddly prototype :)

Presumably you are building the 7mm ones, I don't know just how similar these are to the 1/32 one though?

I might do another, possibly....

It is "Creeping Thyme" and it seems to be doing well. Out of picture to its right is some Corsican Mint and the out of picture blob to its left is Camomile, which is looking healthy but will be too high for the tops of the embankments I think.

Mostly there would be convolvulus, but I keep pulling it up in the hope that one day I will exhaust its roots :headbang:

Great set of pics Simon, they don't half look good on the gentle curve

Good to see Dusty enjoying herself on the line too :D What is the little leafed plant on the bottom LHS of that photo please?

That's the "Corsican Mint" - its looking good but cost ?1.50, so seeds or dividing will need to be the future. I've just finishing sieving the first 25Kg bag of ballast - must try putting some out on my line...

Good luck with the ballasting...

Hi Simon  , what did you do with the middle axle on your milk tank ? , I'm not sure whether I will spring the centre axle on my 7mm ones or have it floating . Did you add much weight to it too ?, with the open chassis I suppose all you can do is add weight to the tank  .......with other wagons I usually add weight under the floor to keep the centre of gravity low :)

I will be springing mine, I had the box open for the milk tanker last night.... in the meantime I have just been priming my MMP tank, I will take a couple of shots later.
